Route Map
It was still overcast again today with
the odd shower for company - some summer weather we are having at the
moment! This is a great little round, visiting the often missed (due to
more exalted company) Thornythwaite Fell which offers fine views of
Borrowdale and to the higher fells. It was a special occasion for Angus
today too...

It wasn't altogether promising at Strands Bridge, the
start of the walk, here looking to a misty Base Brown.

Straight in for a swim and a drink at Combe Gill.

Waterfall on Combe Gill.

The sun picks out Honister Crag on Fleetwith Pike on
the climb to Thornythwaite Fell.

Borrowdale and Derwent Water from the summit of
Thornythwaite Fell.

Looking to the Langdale Pikes and the southern fells
across the un-named tarns on Combe Head.

Casper has a look along The Combe and Borrowdale from
Combe Head.

The cloud lifts from Great Gable. To the left is
Lingmell and in the distance is Yewbarrow.

A panoramic shot of Borrowdale.

Great Gable.

Great dogs!

Rosthwaite Fell.

Looking back to Glaramara, Bow Fell to the left.

The sun picks out Rosthwaite Cam from Stonethwaite
Fell summit.

Looking to Rosthwaite Cam across an un-named pool.
Angus has a quick dip whilst Casper has spotted something further afield.

Bessyboot, centre, and Tarn at Leaves - a great name
for a tarn - from Rosthwaite Cam.

Dale Head and High Spy above Seatoller from Rosthwaite
Cam.

Bessyboot, left, and an idyllic looking Tarn at
Leaves. Select on the image for a full resolution version, ideal to use
as your desktop wallpaper.

I know someone who can shatter the calm!

Bessyboot in the rain.

Angus on the summit of Bessyboot. This is his 214th
and final Wainwright fell, so that deserves a big well done and a chewy
bone!

Get it down you lad, you deserve it! I think this
marks the semi-retirement from fellwalking for Angus as he is starting
to struggle a little on the harder walks. None of us are getting any
younger!

Wispy clouds on Combe Head.

A glimpse of blue sky over Grey Knotts.
