Route Map
Weather like this is just too good to
miss! It was lovely and clear today with the snow clad fells sparkling
in the sunshine and I managed to fit in a quick walk up to Holme Fell.
The snow was crunchy today and for some reason this seemed to send
Casper berserk with him constantly doing his 'Bouncing Beardie' party
piece - I think this meant he enjoyed the walk!

Top o' Selside reflected in Coniston Water from Brown
Howe.

Snow covered Fairfield to the north.

The Coniston fells from Torver.

Once out of the sun it was a different proposition and
it was cold and gloomy on the track from Hodge Close.

Ivy Crag (left) and Holme Fell across a frozen
reservoir.

Not much sun gets over the northern side of the fell
at this time of year.

The Langdale Pikes from the northern end of Holme Fell
with a snow clad Glaramara through the gap to the left.

Wetherlam from the summit.

A fine view over to the Ill Bell ridge.

A close up of the Langdales.

The Howgills.

Ingleborough 30 miles distant.

Fairfield, Great Rigg and Stone Arthur and the summit
of Holme Fell. It looks a lot closer than 7 miles away in this photo.

Casper on the sunny summit.

The Langdale Pikes from Ivy Crag.

Homeward bound with long shadows.

The second reservoir looks even colder than the first
- brrr!

A final retrospective against the low sun to Holme
Fell.

Heading back to Hodge Close.

Golden Casper.

Back at Torver, the setting sun on the Coniston fells.

The Old Man of Coniston.

The golden glow of sunset over the snow clad fells at
the head of Coniston.

A lovely end to a fine day like this.
