Fells

The Lake District is famous for its mountains and fells, attracting thousands of walkers and climbers to the area each year. From a gentle stroll up Latrigg, to a challenging climb up Scafell Pike – England’s highest peak – there is something for everyone, whatever your energy levels and experience. Many walks are accessible from the main towns and villages, served […]

Fairfield Horseshoe

The weather experts weren’t wrong today, it was an absolutely gorgeous morning for a walk around the Fairfield Horseshoe – one I haven’t done (unbelievably) since 2007.

Esk Pike

It was perfect summer weather for a walk up to Esk Pike from Cockley Beck – this is definitely the quiet way to do these fells and I didn’t see anyone until 3 Tarns and then one or two on Crinkle Crags. By the end I was completely boiled, but hey – not complaining!

Robinson

Today’s walk was from Buttermere up to Robinson the steep way from Hassness. The weather was changeable though there were long sunny spells. Once on the top of Robinson the cloud closed in and it was back to hat and gloves in the cold wind.

Bowfell

Today’s weather promised much but ended up being a mixed bag with clouds swirling in and out throughout the walk. Despite this it was really still and warm and very clear making it a good day to explore this quiet and remote area at the head of Eskdale.

Robinson

The recent humid weather continued today and the views were very hazy until the sun managed to burn through towards the end of the walk. I think Casper was feeling the heat today, so much so that he was nearly tripping over that tongue of his. Mind you, I was nearly tripping over mine too – phew, it was too hot to walk!

The Loweswater Fells

There were two walks today, both in the pursuit of Casper bagging the last few of his remaining Wainwright fells. The first was a short and easy one up to Latrigg – I guess I am guilty of always bypassing this one for the lure of the higher fells. The second walk took in the fells around Loweswater. This area is probably the longest drive for me to get to from home, so I guess that is why they get neglected…

Hayeswater Circuit

I managed to get over Kirkstone Pass this morning even though it was pretty icy again. This is the fourth walk in a row in the same area, I guess I am just drawn over that way at the moment for some reason. The weather prediction was for great clarity today and it was indeed clear all morning, but the sun did not quite manage to get through the cloud although there were some quite amazing skies over the snowy fells.

Mardale Round

It was sunny and bright first thing this morning with hardly a cloud in the sky – fantastic conditions for a walk around Mardale Head. Once up to High Street, the clouds came in and made it all a bit flat and I felt in hindsight it might have been better walking anti-clockwise…but then again, who knows? You never can tell what the weather will do.
