Gummer’s How

Gummer’s How

It was a lot colder today than it has been during the rest of November, a real shock to the system but with the cold weather came clear skies.

Gummer’s How sunset

There was just enough time to catch the rapidly fading light tonight to make it up to Gummer’s How.

Gummer’s How

I just had time for a walk at the beginning of the day today…

Gummer’s How

It was great to see a little glimmer of sunshine today after all the recent damp weather and Connie certainly needed energising ready for Father Christmas to pay a visit in a couple of days time!

Gummer’s How

It was pretty windy today even at valley level, of course this was even worse higher up (which I was expecting) but I took the dogs up to Gummer’s How which is an easy walk at any time. Of course it turned into a quick sprint complete with snatched photos – at least the fresh air was refreshing!

Gummer’s How

It was a grey old day today and it remained unerringly cold so I took Connie and the dogs up to Gummer’s How at the end of the day – it didn’t turn out too badly as there was a decent sunset to make a nice backdrop to the walk.

Gummer’s How

You have to take your opportunities where you can and they have been few and far between for the past few months but it was a great feeling to be out and about up on Gummer’s How with Connie and Dougal. The weather was fairly kind to us – it was dry at least and there were some decent sunny spells. Poor old Casper was left at home with his feet up, he is not so good at all these days.

Gummer’s How

It was cold and grey this morning with no signs of any brighter weather when we set off to Gummer’s How. There were plenty of families up there agian today enjoying the fresh air – and the invasion of cows!

Gummer’s How

The school holidays have begun and Connie and friend Maya wanted to try Geocaching today – so we did just that on Gummer’s How where there are a couple of hidden treasures. I think we timed it a bit wrong as it was sunny either side of the walk, but never mind, we enjoyed the walk anyway.

Gummer’s How

It’s the first day of the Easter break and a chance for me, Connie and the boys to get out on the fells together again. We went to Gummer’s How and managed to avoid those pesky cows that reside up there these days and neatly sidestepped ‘evidence’ of their existence on the way up too!

Gummer’s How

School’s out for summer now and Connie was keen to get up to Gummer’s How once more, especially as we ended up inside most of the day yesterday in poor weather. It was warm enough but the views were poor in low lying mist – at least we missed the rain.

Gummer’s How

The thaw seems to have taken place very quickly and there was no snow around at all when we had a short walk to Gummer’s How this morning. It was overcast and dull with the mist hanging over the iciest waters but the temperature was pleasant enough and at least there was no slip-sliding around today.

Gummer’s How

It is half term this week (and next!) and the weather was glorious today, so Connie and I (and the boys of course) went up to Gummer’s How to take advantage of the late afternoon sunshine. The wind was cool and it certainly felt a lot colder than it has of late, no doubt soon bringing the predicted snow to the high ground.

Gummer’s How

I just had time for a quick sprint up to Gummer’s How this morning, well it seemed a shame to miss a bit of sunshine after yesterday. There were fine views as ever from there and not a soul around.

Gummer’s How

It is almost becoming a family tradition for us to get up to Gummer’s How during February half term and today it was a good choice as the weather was superb. It was well worth getting out early too, to be first at the top and witness a spectacular inversion over Windermere. Any later and we would have missed it as it was all but gone by 10.

Gummer’s How

The ‘old’ gang was reformed today when Connie and Angus came with Casper and I for a walk up to Gummer’s How. It was quite warm compared to the last couple of weeks and the snow has receded from most of the higher fells with only a few stubborn patches remaining on the tops. Connie always enjoys this walk and it was good to have Angus with us on the fells once more.

Gummer’s How

There was time for a quick sprint up to Gummer’s How for a look at the predictable (given the weather conditions) inversion over Windermere. The weather did not disappoint and there were fabulous views from there once more in the early morning sunshine.

Gummer’s How

Who would have believed that today would be as clear as it turned out after the prolonged and incessant rain of the previous day? It was to good an opportunity to miss for us to get out on a wonderfully clear day such as this so I even managed to get Connie to dust down her walking boots for the short but exhilarating climb to Gummer’s How.

Gummer’s How

This one wasn’t even on the agenda when I set off today, but as I reached Newby Bridge in thick cloud I knew what the conditions would be like up above. If only I could catch it before the sun got too high, I’d have to be quick though…

Gummer’s How

Today we had a late afternoon walk up to Gummer’s How after visiting Fell Foot park at the foot of Windermere. The views were rather hazy today but with it being so late we witnessed a stunning sunset that lit up the evening sky to the west.
