Coniston Inversion

I had no plans for a walk today but saw the early morning dense fog and decided I would go for it! It is always nice to be able to get above the cloud like this and being out early gave me the chance to have two bites of the cherry as I firstly had a look from the east side of Coniston before a quick travel to Blawith Common for a look from the west side.

Walney Island Sunset

Walney Island lies to the west of Barrow in Furness and has a superb aspect to the Irish Sea and the sunsets from here can often be pretty spectacular. I took Casper and Dougal over to Biggar Bank for a walk along the shore and I’m glad I had my camera with me tonight. Perhaps the photos are a bit samey but they are a little different than usual and I certainly enjoyed the sunset tonight.

Greendale Round

Today was the day of the StridingEdge.net summer 2010 walk around Greendale. I chose a date earlier than usual to try and capture some ‘guaranteed’ decent weather for it, however that didn’t quite materialise! That aside, it was an enjoyable walk with great company and it was good to be able to chat to followers of the site. Up on Buckbarrow, the icing on the cake was bumping into the legendary Joss Naylor who was taking his dogs for a stroll!

School Knott

It was completely miserable this morning with incessant rain which meant I didn’t fancy the high fells at all. I had a local walk up to School Knott from Cleabarrow which is an easy and gentle amble across rolling, grassy paths. I walked part of the route with a lady who recognised Casper and Dougal not from this site, but from Lancashire Life magazine. Little Dougal showed an impressive turn of speed racing her dog around – like Usain Bolt cruising he was today.

The Loweswater Fells

There were two walks today, both in the pursuit of Casper bagging the last few of his remaining Wainwright fells. The first was a short and easy one up to Latrigg – I guess I am guilty of always bypassing this one for the lure of the higher fells. The second walk took in the fells around Loweswater. This area is probably the longest drive for me to get to from home, so I guess that is why they get neglected…
