I think me and Casper were both chomping at the bit to get back on the fells today even though the weather seemed a bit murky. The climb to Sticks Pass gave a fleeting hope of a temperature inversion but the wind higher up ended that notion and the higher tops were walked coldly in the freezing fog.
I had a short walk this afternoon with a relatively easy, if muddy, climb to Cartmel Fell and a visit to a couple of tarns in this largely ignored corner of the lakes. Its position off the beaten track means that it takes a determined effort to get to and that it remains a largely peaceful area – I can hardly believe it is over 4 years since I was last up there.

Last Sunday we were in the snow at Tarn Hows, this Sunday was a complete change in the weather. As if to mark the beginning of British Summer Time, the sun shone and it was a beautiful day for our walk around the southern end of Walney Island adjacent to Barrow-in-Furness.
It was fantastically clear today with views for miles and miles. Certainly this is one of my favourite walks, it being quite arduous and rough at all times. Coupled with a visit to Pillar, my absolute favourite fell it made for a great day out on the high fells.

It was amazingly clear and sunny today, too good to resist getting out for a short walk even though time was getting on. There are great views from the East of Coniston which are much underrated – Brock Barrow was relegated to ‘a nameless summit 748’ by Wainwright, but surely with its magnificent ancient cairn and great views it deserves better than that? See for yourself…
