Eskdale Fell

It started off looking promising this morning but before I reached Burnmoor Tarn from Boot, the heavens opened and it stayed like that for the entire damp walk. Most of the photos were taken from within a hi-tech rain cover (thanks Tesco!) but even that succumbed to the soggy conditions in the end. I would like to redo this walk on a sunny day when I suspect the views will be quite spectacular towards the high fells.

East of Coniston

Regular viewers will remember the last time we visited these fells on the eastern shore of Coniston Water, for it was here that Angus had a disappearance for an hour or two! Oh, how I wish the weather was the same but it was a bit damp and dreary up there today, so no views to speak of. At least Angus was safe this time.

Coledale Round

It was certainly a day of two halves today – the ascent to Grisedale Pike was done under dull skies with an increasingly cold wind that lasted until the descent of Sail when the skies ahead suddenly started clearing to reveal blue skies and sunshine. It wasn’t quite what we had last week, but I wasn’t complaining – it could have been much worse.

Corney Fell

Just a short, late afternoon onto Corney fell today, climbing three rocky turrets which are really quite exposed due to their position of proximity to the west coast of Cumbria – the wind fairly howls off the sea here! The sun came out at odd intervals with some nice illumination on the sea and all in all, this was a pleasant – and easy going – walk.

East of Coniston

It started out as just a nice, short walk today – Angus had other plans though, see below for further details! Superb views from a lovely, heathery ridge today although the going was fairly tough along the mainly pathless tussocky and boggy ridge.

Mosedale Horseshoe

It was a funny old day today, weather-wise. When I set off from Overbeck Bridge, it was raining and showers continued over Yewbarrow with the odd ominous rumble of thunder. When the rain stopped, it became very hazy and warm and by the time I got to Pillar it was sunny, but with gale force winds which were present until I got back to valley level where it became almost unbearably hot. Angus and Casper were resplendent with new summer haircuts – it takes years off Angus, I think. It was quite an arduous round this one – a new one for Casper as it was very rocky with a few scrambles, Angus of course, took it all in his stride.
